Find, back up, and move your local data, and understand when content is sent to external services.
Where data is stored
The data folder chosen at first launch stores the application database, source files, configuration, and exports. Find its location in “设置 → 数据与存储” (Settings → Data and storage), or use “打开数据目录” (Open data folder).
Application data is mainly in knowrealm.db, with source files in subfolders such as files/. Copying only the database does not back up all resources. Prefer the app's full export.
Export a backup
- Open “设置 → 数据与存储 → 导入与导出” (Settings → Data and storage → Import and export).
- Choose a full data export.
- Check whether service keys are included. This is unchecked by default and can usually stay that way.
- Wait for the export and keep the resulting backup package.
Protect a backup containing keys as carefully as the keys themselves. Do not upload it to public repositories or issues. Remove personal content and keys from troubleshooting materials.
Restore and move computers
Use the import action in an empty target database to restore an export. Importing does not merge two existing collections. Check the empty database requirement first.
After restoring, verify courses, records, original files, and settings. Reconfigure services if the backup excluded keys. Keep the original backup and data until you confirm success.
If an older app cannot read a newer database, use the matching app version. Do not manually lower the database version. See Installation for known version restrictions.
Change the data folder
In “数据与存储” (Data and storage), select “更改数据目录” (Change data folder), choose a new empty location, read the confirmation, and start migration. Keep the app running, then restart as prompted and check your resources.
This moves current data. It does not set up cloud sync or merge an existing folder. Export a backup beforehand.

Local first describes storage, not fully offline AI. Outbound content follows the app's consent and scope controls. Review each provider's own processing policies separately.
