Installation

Install the Windows desktop app and complete first launch setup.

Download the official installer

Visit Downloads or official GitHub Releases and select an installer that is actually available.

At the time of this documentation review, the official release provides a Windows x64 MSI and a SHA256SUMS.txt checksum file. This release has no macOS or Linux installers. Check Downloads for the version and file size. Avoid repackaged files from unknown sources.

The installer includes the local service and audio tools the app needs. Regular users do not need Python, Node.js, or developer tools.

Install and launch

  1. Run the downloaded MSI and follow the installer.
  2. Start KnowRealm and choose an interface language. Chinese and English are available.
  3. Choose a local data folder or accept the suggested default. It stores the database, source files, and configuration.
  4. Configure AI and transcription services, or skip and complete them later in Settings.
  5. Enter a role and personal introduction, or skip, then open the workspace.

You should now be able to use the app and save resources. AI generation and transcription are unavailable until configured. Local resource management does not require an account.

Verify the installer and system prompts

Download the MSI and SHA256SUMS.txt from the same release. Open PowerShell in the installer's folder and calculate the downloaded file's checksum:

Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 -LiteralPath '.\your-downloaded-installer.msi'

Compare the output exactly with the matching filename in the checksum file. Replace the example filename with the file you downloaded.

The v0.1.0 installer is not code signed, so Windows may show an unknown publisher. Verify the source and checksum first. Follow school or company installation rules on managed devices.

Updates and existing data

Export your data before updating. Do not open data created by a newer development version in an older app.

v0.1.0 supports database versions up to 57 and cannot read newer development databases such as version 63. Use a new data folder when trying this installer. Do not manually change the database version.
